How Do I Get To Memory Lane? – Oh and Happy Pancake Day {Entry #58}

This entry discusses forgetfulness, chronic illness, Fibro Fog and stress it also references food so please continue at your own discretion.

So I never planned to write an entry tonight on the account of the fact I have to be up really early in the morning, but I was reminded it’s Pancake Day. So happy Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday or Day of the Pancakes whatever you celebrate I hope you have a good day. Unfortunately this entry isn’t about Pancakes but it is relevant because the truth is I forgot it was Pancake Day and I know most of you, you’re probably thinking what’s the big deal? It’s not a big deal but it did make me think about a topic to talk about. Forgetfulness.

As some of you may be aware I have Fibromyalgia and one of the symptoms of Fibro is something called Fibro Fog it refers to a lack of cognitive function (I actually had to look up the term because I forgot) especially when it comes to memory. In short my memory is garbage. So bad in fact that I often struggle to remember something seconds after it happened, and I’m often left frozen mid-sentence forgetting what I was going to say. This is a big problem and really stressful. I like to laugh about my memory problems because if I don’t I will cry. I’ve lost years of memories because my brain just decides to throw them away. My friends will be talking about a huge thing from our childhood and even with photo evidence I just won’t remember. I can’t remember my age or the year I was born, I remember the date I was born on 23rd August but I honestly cannot remember the year I have to be told it when writing out documents and even once I’ve written it I’ll forget it. I know roughly what year it was but I’ve forgotten about 80% of my childhood. I remember things that happened during my childhood but I can’t remember how old I was when they happened it’s like it all happened at once if that makes sense. I’ve had nine exes (I’ll discuss them in future entries if you’re interested) and even though they’re all within the last five or so years I can’t remember when those relationships were. There is very little memory I maintain. I remember my name and I’m actually pretty good with names, I say “Good Morning Jayjay” whenever I wake up just in case I forgot though. Basically the only way I remember things is to be reminded by others or my phone. I miss being able to reminisce about things with my friends, I want to be able to say “remember when we did this?” Without being told that the event only happened an hour ago. I hate repeating myself three times in a row because I forgot I’d already said it. It’s like a constant fight to make my brain work. Really this entry isn’t about anything specific it’s just a ramble about memory or lack thereof. But it feels good to get my frustrations off my chest. I was going to say something specific at the end of this entry but guess what, I forgot? Usually I would step away and try and remember but because this entry is about forgetfulness I’m just going to leave this part in. Memory is a box labelled fragile and unfortunately I keep dropping it. Again I wish you all a Happy Pancake Day, have a pancake in my honour. And until next time I wish you bore da, prynhawn da or nos da wherever you are in the world.

Okay adding this last bit in ten minutes later after finishing this entry because I just remembered the thing I was going to add on the end was “although I can’t find Memory Lane I still love making new memories” okay that’s it Byeeee.

This is an overview of every single Winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Winner including it’s International and other Spin-Offs. This entry discusses controversial winners and includes references to swearing so please continue at your own discretion.

Welcome to our run down on every Winner throughout the Drag Race Franchises. We will be discussing RuPaul’s Drag Race Seasons 1-13, Every International Spin-Off, and other Spin-Offs including RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 1-6, Holi-Slay, Drag U, Queen of the Universe and Secret Celebrity. This entry contains spoilers for every season so if you haven’t seen a specific spin-off yet I recommend either coming back to this entry once you have or just skipping over the sections you wish not to be spoiled. We have a lot to go over in this entry so let’s start right away first discussing each of the spin-offs with different formats to the main series.

Unique Format Series

The following series are all connected to the main franchise through the inclusion of previous contestants and judges, but have unique formats which will be discussed as we break down each series. These are not the only Spin-Offs that exist but they are the ones which feature placements outside of original season placements. All Stars will not be included here as it’s format is close enough to the main series to warrant it being included amongst other official Drag Race main series franchises.

RuPaul’s Drag U (Seasons 1-3)

RuPaul’s Drag U was the first of a long list of Drag Race inspired Spin-Offs. The series featured previous Drag Race contestants giving Women Drag makeovers to help them access their “inner divas” each previous contestant was referred to as a Drag Professor. The winners of each season are the Professors who had the highest percentage of wins overall according to the Drag U Wikia the Winners for Seasons 1-3 were.

Season 1

Shannel

Shannel was originally a contestant on Season 1 of RuPaul’s Drag Race

Shannel tied with Raven as the Professors who scored 4 Wins each, but with a higher win percentage of 44.44% Shannel is the winning Professor of Season 1 of Drag U.

Season 2

Manila Luzon & Mariah

Manila Luzon and Mariah (Paris Balenciaga) were both originally contestants on Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race

With 2 Wins each and an overall win percentage of 50% Manila Luzon and Mariah are tied as the winning Professors of Season 2 of Drag U.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular

RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular was a promotional Spin-Off which brought 8 contestants from previous seasons and tasked them with lip syncing to festive RuPaul songs against each other. All 8 contestants were crowned America’s first Drag Race Xmas Queens, they were.

Sonique (Season 2), Shangela (Seasons 2 & 3), Latrice Royale (Season 4 & All Stars 1), Jasmine Masters and Trixie Mattel (Season 7), Kim Chi (Season 8), Eureka O’Hara (Seasons 9 & 10) and Mayhem Miller (Season 10)

All 8 contestants won this spin-off making it the spin-off with the most winners produced by a single entry in the entire franchise. 2 of these winners would go on to win All Stars seasons.

Holi-Slay was a one off purely promotional Spin-Off but another Christmas Special was released in 2021, it was the film The B**** Who Stole Christmas and featured 20 contestants from the franchise acting alongside RuPaul.

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race has a concept similar to that of Drag U where previous contestants place non Drag Artists (in this case Celebrities) into Drag and watch them compete. These mentors are known as Drag Supremes. Each episode of the season featured at least one different Celebrity Winner they are as follows.

“Are The Straights Okay?” And Other Queerphobic Rhetorics {Entry #56}

Thumbnail

Prefer to Listen? Check out the Audio/Video Version of this entry here – https://youtu.be/o2GbhA40LPk

This entry discusses Queerphobia and Heteronormativity so please continue at your own discretion.

I’ve mentioned this before, on several occasions actually but it’s clear to me that the villainising of Straight Individuals is not going away anytime soon. I get it Allocishet Individuals have a privilege Queer individuals of any kind simply don’t have, but it make no sense to take all that stress out on one specific group within that shorthand. Especially since individually each of those identities has the capacity to be paired with Queer identities. You can be Straight and Trans, Nonbinary, Aspec or Mspec. You can also be Straight and Polyamorous. There are so many Straight Queers out there that it makes literally no sense to make out that being Straight automatically makes you Anti or even Non-Queer. It doesn’t. We need to really pay attention to how we express our frustrations on societal Queerphobia especially when it comes to Heteronormativity. I’m in no way saying Straight Individuals don’t have a privilege over many other identities they absolutely do, but that privilege takes a backseat when Queerness is present. We need to stop only seeing the black and white flag when we see Straight Queer individuals and take in the whole rainbow picture as it exists. Phrases like “Are the Straights okay?” “Eww not the straights” “the heteros are uppsetios” are used frequently amongst the Queer community and it needs to stop. When you use a term without contextualising you mean Straight as in Allocishet Individuals you are leaving the door open for all who use that term to be painted with the same muddy brush as Non-Queer Straights. Straight individuals are not are enemy, Heteronormativity is. Straight Individuals cannot help being Straight, they can’t change being Straight as much as any other individual can’t change their own orientation. They are deserving of love, and are allowed to feel pride for their identity because they are who they are. What shouldn’t be happening is treating Straight individuals as the enemy when the enemy is society and it hailing The Straights as the ideal and the norm which they are not. They are individuals just like every other and they deserve to have their identities respected. The Straights really are okay. Thank you for coming to listen to my little rant until next time I wish you Bore Da, Prynhawn Da or Nos Da depending on where you are in the world. Byeee.

Let’s Talk About My Experience as a Drag Baby – A Look Into my Past and Future {Entry #55}

Thumbnail for entry and video

Prefer to Listen? Check out the Audio/Video Version of this entry here – https://youtu.be/1syYpbOqeuI

This entry discusses addiction, fetishising, harassment and sex work so please continue at your own discretion.

If you’ve known me for a while you’d know I used to go by the name Baby JayJay, that’s the name I used to gain a following over on Twitter. I used to dress up as a baby because at the time it felt right. I never really understood what I was doing it just felt like a part of me. I went through many different conclusions as to what and who I was long before I came out as Trans or Nonbinary or Asexual or any of the terms I now use. For a while I called myself an Adult Baby because that’s the label that was placed on me when I started posting photos online in my baby get-up. Later I would distance myself from the ABDL (Adult Baby Diaper Lover) Community because it didn’t feel right it didn’t feel it was who I was. Of course I still love and respect all my ABDL friends I met on my journey but it just isn’t who I was. Later I would use the term Age Regressor and this is a term I still believe fits me to this day however now I’ve come to truly understand what I was doing. I was doing Drag. I always used to think Drag was all about makeup and performance and for many it is but at its heart it’s expression. What I was doing was expressing myself through a character and that character was Baby JayJay. I will forever be grateful to Baby JayJay they gave me my name after all but being Baby JayJay was a miserable time in my life. Not because I loved expressing myself but because no one was perceiving me how I wanted to be perceived. What I did was passed off as a fetish, I was constantly sexualised by strangers online and by partners in real life. And it made me miserable. Eventually I began playing on it I turned my character into an innuendo producing machine to make them happy. Through this I also started sex work. I had several clients who would pay me to perform in what was essentially Drag. But the shows I performed were private and involved me doing things I was not comfortable with. My fun little persona became an addiction, I began meeting clients, getting paid and then using that money to purchase more pacifiers and Baby paraphernalia to dress myself up with I spent a lot of money on that stuff. I always looked good, and I always felt good so it was worth it but the problem was the more attention I got the more money I got and the more I couldn’t stop myself. Art should never be in control of your life and my art my expression became the controlling factor of my life. I wasn’t in control of Baby JayJay anymore and that’s when I knew I had to hang up the pacifier. I don’t regret anything I did as Baby JayJay I wouldn’t be who I am now without them. In fact I want to wake them up from their nap someday and do things properly, be open about the fact I’m doing Drag, help spread the message of What Drag is and can be and elevate my character to be an even better beacon of light which it was always meant to be. My journey is not over and I hope to share it with you and I hope you’ll embrace it with me. I have always been a baby inside, a baby that longs to be free. And when the time is right and I have control that’s when Baby JayJay will return. Thank you for supporting me and until next time I wish you Bore Da, Prynhawn Da or Nos Da wherever you are in the world. Byeeee.

I’m a Vegan That Still Eats Meat – A Discussion On How This Can Be {Entry #54}

Prefer to Listen? Check out the Audio/Video Version of this entry here – https://youtu.be/WXowzOEi2Q8

This entry discusses Food, Animal Cruelty, Ableism and Anger so please continue at your own discretion.

Until today I had never really contemplated the idea that I could be a Vegan. It seemed like an unrealistic goal for me because of the fact I have to consume meat to survive. I’m disabled and there are aspects of my disability which inhibit me from completely removing meat from my diet. I won’t say what my disability is because that’s personal information which you don’t need to know, my point is that I felt my disability got in the way of me being a Vegan. Which is ridiculous.

Earlier from the time I’m writing this entry I had an encounter with a not so savoury individual. They made a Tweet to the tune of “Becoming a Vegan is easy so everyone should just get on with it” I found this generalisation infuriating. Saying we can all become vegan because it’s easy felt insulting. I thought how is it easy when I for example cannot eat meat and therefore completely commit to a Vegan Lifestyle? Ignoring this which I felt they were doing is a form of Ableism. You are actively ignoring that many Disabled individuals cannot completely commit to a Vegan Lifestyle because it would be at the detriment to their health. Not just that but many Religions, belief systems and Cultures hold beliefs which many Vegans would argue go against their morals. Hunting for food for example could by many be considered anti vegan because you are actively distressing an animal to eat it. This isn’t the view of all Vegans I want to stress but a significant number of them. How do you go from doing something which is important to your culture to just switching to being Vegan. You can’t. It’s not an easy switch to make if you decide to make it at all. Whether they intended to or not these are the things this tweeter failed to consider so I called them out on over generalising. And eventually they agreed with me they said that becoming a vegan for them was a struggle so I asked what the point of the original tweet was and they blocked me. Because they didn’t like what they heard. Understandable. But they did remind something before that.

In our continuous back and forth they told me Veganism isn’t just about having a Vegan diet it’s about doing everything you can to ensure the welfare of animal lives and make sure they are not put in harms way. I knew this already and at the time I felt like telling me this as if I didn’t know was somewhat patronising but in the end it did benefit me to be reminded because I realised that actually I am doing everything in my ability to look after the welfare of animals, I don’t wear or use products which harm animals, I donate when I can to local charities which support the welfare of animals and I regularly lift the voices of and interact with petitions of those advocating for animal rights. This is not all I do of course but it is a significant amount of things which do contribute to Veganism. And although as it stands I need to eat meat I do eat vegan as often as I physically am able without hurting my body. So with this information I want to thank this individual for reminding me that you don’t have to be a perfect vegan to be a vegan. You have to do everything you can but if you can’t do something it doesn’t mean you can’t be something. I’ve always felt uneasy about consuming animal products it makes me uncomfortable I don’t enjoy it. I really don’t thinking about where they come from makes me feel nauseous, but until there is a viable solution to me being able to cut meat entirely out of my diet I just have to do what I have to do to ensure my own survival. I always justified this with well Gaia placed animals on this earth and gave us the ability to eat them so we should be allowed to eat them. I’m a pagan by the way if you didn’t know where Gaia fits into this. I believe it’s up to us if we want to commit to being vegan or not and I for one am commuting to being vegan in the ways I can. I’m not going to tell others to join me as a Vegan I think that’s counter productive, I’m also not going to blame minimum wage fast food workers for selling meat products. Because it’s not their fault capitalism exists and they need money to live. It’s your choice if you want to become vegan and it’s also our choice not to judge those who can’t do certain things or even those who don’t want to do certain things. Veganism is personal to the individual it’s a belief system at the end of the day. And I believe that despite the fact I need to eat meat to survive, I am still Vegan. Agree or disagree that’s just how it is I will be using the label Vegan for myself going forwards and until next time I wish you Bore Da, Prynhain Da or Nos Da depending on where you are in the world. Byeeeee.

Addressing my “Lesbophobia” {Entry #53}

Prefer to Listen? Check out the Audio/Video Version of this entry here – https://youtu.be/5OSNQ-LbsYk

This entry discusses Ableism, Mspec Exclusionism and Transphobia so please continue at your own discretion.

I want to start with an apology to all Lesbians everywhere, I am so sorry … that you have to put up with these individuals within your community. What individuals? Monosexual Lesbians thinking it’s within their right to speak for Mspec Lesbians because they’re also Lesbians. This entry was created on a whim because I am honestly annoyed with all the comments I’ve been receiving from these entitled cry babies saying things like “Lesbians can’t like Men” or “you’re being Lesbophobic and redefining what Lesbian means” so I thought I would formally address my “Lesbophobia” I’ve mentioned several times I have no issues with Lesbians, in fact I whole heartedly support all Lesbians whether they are Monosexual, Multisexual, Asexual, Women, Nonbinary or Men. I love the strength that comes from the Lesbian community which comes from how diverse and beautiful it is. What I don’t understand is why it’s so hard for members within that community to accept their fellow Lesbians? Why is it so bad if a Lesbian is attracted to Men? Does that take away from your personal identity? No it doesn’t. Your voice as a Lesbian is clearly not being silenced because you are speaking from your experience as a Lesbian. Emphasis on the your because your experience is your own and has no impact on any other Lesbian’s. Where do you get off thinking it’s okay to say an individual isn’t allowed to use a term they identify with? Lesbians have never excluded Mspec or Aspec Lesbians in fact they were embraced by the Lesbian community, all Lesbian identities were. This notion that Lesbians have to only like Women is not only nonsense but built from Transphobic rhetorics built to purposely exclude Trans and Nonbinary Individuals and Transfems from Lesbian attraction and let me tell you as a Transfem myself I’m not going to take that lightly. What you’re saying when you say Lesbians can’t be attracted to Men is that you don’t see Trans and Nonbinary Individuals as who they really are you just see them as Men. I did a whole section on the definition of Lesbian in my single attraction identities entry so I won’t get into much detail with it here but in short there is no single definition of Lesbian because being a Lesbian looks different depending on which Lesbian you ask. I don’t care about the dictionary definition of Lesbian, dictionary begins with the term dic for a reason because it’s full of poppycock. Wanna know how dictionaries came about? Some old man named Samuel Johnson decided to write down every word in the English language and it took 40 scholars 40 years to completely dictate how words were supposed to be written. Before this there was no such things as correct spellings you culd rite ane wurd howefer you wanted and still understand what was being said. The entire concept of dictating how things should be written is ableist and it’s this concept that is still to this day humoured, new words are added to the dictionary every year, last year for example the term FTW were added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, an abbreviation which has been use for years before it was added. Dictionaries are never up to date. Which means their definitions are never 100% accurate. So forgive me for not seeing the definition of Lesbian in the dictionary and saying “ah my mistake” I know for a fact Lesbians are not just Women attracted to other Women because my Great Aunt is dating a Lesbian who is attracted to both Men and Women. She openly uses the terms Lesbian and Bi without question. This is the real world not some fantasy gatekept land exclusionists seem to live in. I dare you to tell my Great Aunt her girlfriend isn’t a Lesbian I dare you, she will at best laugh at you and at worst punch you in the face. Bi Lesbians and other Mspec Lesbians have always been the norm in my life which is why it baffles me so much that others have a problem with them simply existing. I say this in the kindest way possible but if you’re a Lesbian Woman who is only attracted to Women I’m going to need you to shut up when it comes to conversations about Mspec Lesbians or Lesbians attracted to Men because I know you don’t want to hear this but their existence doesn’t revolve around yours. And no I don’t feel regret explicitly telling you to shut up because Gaia knows you need to be told upfront. I’m tired of going about my day only to see your comments attacking innocent individuals going about their lives, it’s obvious you don’t care about learning about the beautifully diverse Lesbian Umbrella which is fine thats your choice but I recommend not talking about things you have no understanding of. Maybe actually watch my videos and learn and if not get off my channel because you are not welcome here. I’m not silencing your voice I’m blocking out your bigotry so the individuals who come to this safe space I created can actually learn in peace without you shouting at them for no reason. I will never stop supporting All Lesbians but I won’t support Lesbians who are so fuelled with hate that they don’t even see the problem in their own behaviour. I’m sorry for this long rant but I needed to get it off my chest because it really does grind my gears. Thank you for all the beautiful individuals out there who aren’t being jerks for no reason I love having you around and I wish you Bore Da, Prynhain Da, or Nos Da depending on where you are in the world Gaia bless you all.

How To Use Inclusive Language {Entry #50}

This entry discuses Ableism, Ableist Slurs, Cisnormativity, Exclusion, Heteronormativity, Misgendering so please continue at your own discretion.

This is an entry discussing what Inclusive Language is, why we use it, and most importantly how to use it effectively. This is my fiftieth blog entry and I wanted to celebrate how I’ve used my voice to create 50 entries and I thought having an entry focused solely on language would be the perfect way to not only celebrate my voice, but my identity, and all identities because all identities are worthy of respect.

What is Inclusive Language?

Inclusive Language is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s language created with the sole purpose of including individuals. Inclusion is the concept of involving as many individuals into a conversation that they should be a part of. For example if you are talking about University Students rather than all individuals that exist within a University setting such as General Staff, and Lecturers, it would benefit the conversation more by specifically stating University Students rather than University Community or something akin to it. You are using language with the purpose of effectively communicating with as many as you need to, this can be a small group or community of individuals or the entire World Population. It’s important to understand the language that will benefit those you are trying to talk to or about.

Who Needs Inclusive Language?

So who needs inclusive language? We all do. Every community has its own specific way of referring to themselves, The Asexual Community refers to themselves as The Asexual or Ace Community. If they wanted to broaden the discussion to include other communities such as the Aromantic, Asensual, or Aplatonic Communities they should change their language to something that benefits all these communities, in this case the language they would include the term Aspec in some capacity. Aspec Individuals are members of the greater Queer Community and Queer individuals are part of a community which benefits greatly from Inclusive Language. Society is built off societal norms such as Heteronormativity and Cisnormativity and as such language was created with the purpose of upholding those norms. This does not benefit any individual who isn’t Heterosexual or Cisgender and so we need to work towards using language that benefits these protected groups, rather than telling a young boy “when you get a girlfriend” tell them “you might have a partner someday” (I also removed the idea of when because that young boy does not need a future partner to exist as their own entity.) You May have noticed I just referred to that boy with the pronouns They/Them why was this? It’s because I don’t know the boy myself and don’t know what pronouns benefit them so therefore it makes sense to default to Inclusive pronouns which themselves are a form of Inclusive language. If I were to assume this boy used pronouns such as He/Him without knowing if they did that would be an example of upholding Cisnormativity. Just because you know an individual is a boy because you were told such doesn’t mean that boy is Cisgender. Cisgender meaning any individual that correlates their identity with the gender they were assigned at birth 100% of the time. I will discuss Cisgender in more detail in an upcoming blog entry. Other communities that benefit from Inclusive Language (of course keeping in mind that all communities can intersect with one another and therefore does not necessarily mean they are separate from The Queer Community we just mentioned or any of the other communities I’m about to list) are but not limited to the Disabled, Neurodiverse, Non-Human, and Cultural Communities. All of which have their own specific forms of language created to include them. So hopefully now you have some idea of who Inclusive Language benefits. Now we will explore further how to use Inclusive Language in everyday Language.

How Do We Use Inclusive Language?

I’ve already mentioned some examples of how to use Inclusive Language by using the boy with the pronouns They/Them as an example. Lets expand on pronouns and Gender Inclusive Language a little more before going into some other examples. As I mentioned They/Them are default pronouns especially within the English language and include all individuals, some use them as their personal pronouns whereas others don’t use them for themselves at all, but until we know what their actual pronouns are we should use They/Them up until the point we do know. Pronouns are another topic worthy of their own entry but what’s important to note here is that they are indicators for an individuals gender identity. Other indicators of gender identity include gendered terms such as Sir/Madam or Man/Woman these should never be the default term used for conversations where you don’t know an individuals gender or if you are talking to a wider audience you know isn’t made up solely of individuals that use these terms. Gendered Language was created with the purpose of excluding any individual that does not fit into societies Cisnormative expectations of gender and therefore alternatives are either limited or near on impossible to find. If you want to truly be Inclusive you need to stop looking for alternatives that do not benefit all and instead use language that is naturally Inclusive to all. It may be seen as informal to do so, but positive change does not come from those who conform to the way things are in reference to the way gendered language is. We need to stop addressing letters as Dear Sir/Madam or to unknown individuals as He/She and instead find language that includes all. Instead of Dear Sir/Madam try Dear (and then the title of the role the individual you are communicating with uses such as Dear Office Manager etc…) and instead of He/She simply write They. These small changes make Language so much more Inclusive and accepting of individuals that are not Cisgender. I’m sure you’ve heard of movements such as “say pregnant people instead of pregnant women” of course referring to the fact Cisgender Women are not the only ones who can become pregnant, Trans Men, Trans Masc, and Non-Binary individuals should also be included in discussions about pregnancy, but this leads to further problems you may not have considered.

What Do We Do If Those We Are Referring to are not People?

Using people is a form of Inclusive language but it is not as far as inclusive language can go. Saying Pregnant People instead of Pregnant Women may include Trans and Nonbinary People, but it does not include all the Non-Human or Otherkin individuals that exist, those who don’t identify with the term People and/or Human. Inclusion should start with those that are included the least, once we include them, we include all. These individuals have existed for centuries, they may be Non-Human and/or Otherkin for any reason such as Cultural, due to their Neurodiversity, or because they simply don’t identify as people. The reason why isn’t important what is, is that they exist and since they exist we need to include them in conversations that include them. You may have noticed in this blog and all my others I use terms such as Individuals instead of people for this exact reason. I am talking to all of you and I don’t know whether you are People or not so don’t use people because that wouldn’t be fully Inclusive Language. If you are a person or a human I bet you didn’t even bat an eye with the language I’m using because it still includes you. You have access to fully Inclusive terms, why not use them? I’m not saying the switch from people to individuals will be an easy one, but I assure you those you are including will notice and they will be thankful. Of course you always have the choice not to make the shift, but if you don’t attempt to after the understanding that not all on this Earth identify as people then you are purposely choosing to exclude entire communities from the language you use, and exclusion of any kind is not tolerated in the safe space I have created here for all individuals. Of course if you are talking about people specifically you are allowed to say people, it’s not a bad term, same as you can use the term Woman if referring specifically to Pregnant Women you personally know. These terms can be used it’s just important to know when to use them. We’re not trying to erase any term here, the point of inclusion is to understand they are not the only terms that are inclusive and are the stopping point for where inclusion can go.

How To Include Disabled, Neurodiverse, and Systems in your Language

Another societal norm is ableism, whether you want to admit it or not we have all contributed to this in some way or form. Terms such as Stupid, Dumb, Mad, or Crazy are all examples of ableist language you cannot use if they don’t directly refer to the disabilities and/or mental illnesses you have, I have chosen these specific examples because they are used directly or indirectly to cause offence to the disabilities I personally have. These are slurs I have reclaimed for myself, of course you don’t have to reclaim them if they affect you and I will never force them onto others. This is a discussion I’ve noticed is what angers individuals the most, and I get it none of us want to be told the language we’ve used our whole lives is not meant for us to use, but change doesn’t come without internal reflection of how each of us is contributing to the further exclusion of disabled individuals. The context you are using the language is not relevant, it doesn’t matter if you are using it casually or as a joke the language was created with intention of harming Disabled individuals. I fully recommend doing your own further research into what language is and isn’t ableist. It’s never okay to use a slur of any kind, of course some slurs are undoubtedly worse than others, but that doesn’t mean other slurs ableist slurs especially are no less hurtful to hear. Since you can’t tell if an individual is or isn’t disabled I prefer to leave it to the conscience of the individual using the slur as to whether or not they should be using it. As we are on the topic of inclusive language for disabled individuals I need to discuss what identity first language is and why it should be used over person first language. Identity first language places the disability or condition before an individual for example Autistic Individual instead of Individual with Autism. Identity first language is preferred for the majority of disabled individuals because it places an emphasis on the fact our disabilities are a part of who we are, rather than an infliction that devalues who we are as individuals. Our disabilities empower us. It’s not always easy to use identity first language because language used for disabled individuals was created by abled individuals in other to other us from society. In these cases we need to be creative; let’s take my disability as an example. I have Fibromyalgia, I would not say I’m an Individual with Fibromyalgia I would say I’m a Fibro Warrior instead. If you’re not sure what term to use please ask the individual you’re talking to. Finally let’s talk about Systems, not all Systems consider themselves to be disabled, but most systems consider themselves to be Neurodiverse which is why I am mentioning them here. Systems are multiple identities that exist within the same body or vessel each with their own distinct personalities. I myself am a System with five individuals I share a body with their names are Mareep, Ozzy, Dash, Duncan, and Silent if you were curious. Systems of course deserve to be included within conversations as well and it’s for this reason we need to stop referring to individuals by singular terms. For example Everyone should become All instead. Again just like with including Non-Humans changing our language is not always easy, but change is always good, and I recommend doing your own research about Systems to get a better understanding of how to include us in your language. I will of course be doing a blog entry on the subject down the line.

So that concludes this entry on how to use Inclusive language, I hope this was able to help you understand how to be more inclusive in the language you use. Honestly there is still so much left to discuss so don’t be afraid to leave your questions down below and if you want to see a part 2 let me know in the comments. Also if I’ve missed anything be sure to let me know so I can amend this entry where needed. Thank you for taking the time to check out this entry and I will see you soon.
