The Contestants

A quick note to mention, two of these contestants technically share a certain rank as they went home at the same time but for the purposes of this entry I will be looking at their amount of wins over the course of the season to determine where we talk about them… without further ado let’s get into the contestants.

Kween Kong

Kween Kong was the eighth eliminated contestant on Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, she was eliminated alongside Hannah Conda but as she had less wins overall we will be placing her in 3rd place. Hannah Conda addressed her previous racist behaviour in past performances during the season making her the second contestant in the Down Under franchise to address their racist past after Scarlet Adams on Season 1. She acknowledged why her behaviour was wrong and promised to educate herself and grow as a person going forwards.

And the Winner is…

Spankie Jackzon

Spankie Jackzon was the winner of Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under making her the second New Zealander to take home the crown after Kita Mean on Season 1. During her time on the season she won 3 Maxi Challenges in Episodes 2, 3 alongside Yuri Guaii, and 5 alongside Hannah Conda and Kween Kong.

Overall I enjoyed this season of Down Under more than the previous season, but it still wasn’t one of my favourite seasons in the entire franchise. I appreciated the important discussions surrounding ageism within the Queer community which isn’t addressed enough and also the discussion around racism. I hope the franchise continues on this upwards trajectory going forward and stops casting contestants who have racist backgrounds, the first season was rampant with controversy because of its cast and although the discussions are important ones to have, we should be giving a platform to those it directly affects and not to the perpetrators. Despite that this season included a lot of talent and I look forward to seeing where the contestants go from here.

So that was it for our overview of Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under I hope you enjoyed it, our next overview in this series will be for RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race Season 2. Until then I wish you bore da, prynhawn da, noswaith dda, or nos da wherever you are in the world especially if you’re in or from New Zealand or Australia byeee.
